Allergens
Allergens
Food allergens are proteins in food which can trigger allergic, sometimes even life-threatening reactions in sensitized individuals. Even extremely low allergen concentrations are sufficient to cause symptoms. 90% of all food allergies are caused by the following 8 common food categories: milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, and soy.
EU directive 2003/89/EC requires food manufacturers to label their products with all ingredients potentially capable of causing allergic reactions. Additionally, the directive includes 1a list of food ingredients classified as being possible allergens or intolerants.
EU Regulation 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers brings together EU rules on general food labeling (including allergens) and nutrition labeling into one piece of legislation.
Many other countries worldwide have similar legislation requiring food manufacturers to label products potentially containing allergens.
SENSISpec Allergen Detection ELISA Kits
It is critical to ensure that low-level contaminations are not missed during the on-site analysis, resulting in false negative results being released. Reliable and rapid methods, such as the allergen ELISA kits offered by Eurofins Technologies will improve and simplify in-house testing processes. Our comprehensive allergen ELISA test kit portfolio offers a solution to detect any key allergens. SENSISpec Allergen ELISA Kits
SENSISpec INgezim Gluten R5 ELISA – AOAC Performance Tested Method
The assay is based on the R5 Monoclonal Antibody, which is specific for proteins from wheat, rye and barley. The Limit of Detection of the assay is 3.4 ppm (mg/kg), lower than the limits established by the Codex Alimentarius.
The AOAC Performance Tested Method status of the assay demonstrates that after a rigorous validation study, all the results obtained were satisfactory according with the expected.
The results confirm the consistency of the kit to be used as a reliable tool within an allergen risk management program and a validated assay for ISO 17025 accredited laboratories. The SENSISpec INgezim Gluten R5 kit provides fast and reliable quantitative results for gluten detection.
